| CHANGE OF SUNDAY MASS TIME
At the Good Shepherd convent, the 9.00 am Sunday Mass is a difficulty for the staff. A request was made to Fr Ernie to change the time to 9.30am. This would certainly be a great help to the Hostel and Nursing Home in getting residents ready for Mass.
This would mean changing the Sunday parish Mass to 11.00am. The management Committee felt that this would actually be a good thing for parishioners. It would also be good for the John Hoan community because on various occasions, such as the special celebration 2 weeks ago by a newly ordained priest, the 9.00am Mass goes beyond 10.30am!!!
It was therefore agreed that we would change to the new time of 11.00am on Sunday 30th May.
The Committee were prepared this new time….and if it wasn’t suitable, then back we go!!!

| A SAD TIME FOR THE JOHN HOAN COMMUNITY
The tragic accident on last Sunday morning claimed the lives of three teenagers. One of the young people was Huy Nguyen, aged 16 years, from Blackburn. His family are members of the John Hoan Community. Huy himself had been a member of the Eucharistic Youth group and an altar server. His family have been very involved in the Vietnamese Community life. The Requiem mass was celebrated on Wednesday at our church. The church was overflowing for this sad occasion with many of his school friends in attendance. Our prayerful support goes to each of the three families at this time of tragic loss. We also remember the extended family and friends of Huy.

| FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Committee, under John Taylor’s guidance, is looking at ways to increase our parish financial resources so that we can develop pastoral initiatives to build up our parish community life.
Sacrificial Offering: The Committee will take responsibility for promoting our envelopes during the month of June as we gear up to new envelopes. They will conduct a parish campaign aimed at more people becoming involved. They will also investigate the possibility of direct debit for the sacrificial offering….as happens in quite a few parishes.
Direct Restoration Appeal: Sometime later this year, the committee will also have a Restoration Appeal Day for parishioners, combined with some social activity. We have not done this so far. The John Hoan community will be having their annual barbecue and collection for the Restoration Appeal in May.

| HOSPITALITY
This was seen as a priority last year…..but with one thing and another, this just hasn’t happened. Now the plans for hospitality are well under way.
Younger Parishioners: Vivienne Sullivan and Catherine Noone will be facilitating some evening dinners and Sunday lunches at the presbytery to bring together younger couples, new and old parishioners.
Senior Parishioners: Anne Fitzpatrick will facilitate some afternoon teas or lunches for older, retired parishioners at the presbytery.
Don’t try and work out what younger means….it’s sort of the opposite to senior!!!! Developing such hospitality is seen as essential for people getting to know each other……especially new parishioners.
The Parish Management Committee will now begin meeting each month. One of it’s important tasks will be to monitor the progress of the development of our parish hall as a community centre. It will be referred to as ‘The Wellington’ and eventually will have it’s own Management Committee drawn from both our parish community of St Joseph’s and from various community groups. This needs to be determined.
